What’s inside Nearside

The same list a school or an operator gets on paper. Both sides can be tried at demo.nearside.ie without a code.

For the learner

In the appWhat it gives the learner
Emily, the spoken examinerAsks the CPC walkaround questions and the tester's verbal questions out loud. The learner answers out loud; the answer is written down as they speak, marked against the examiner's points, and the feedback is read back. Hands-free, it runs the whole oral itself. A setting for learners whose first language is not English widens what Emily listens for. Most topics can be taken four ways: read it, listen to it, quiz it, or speak it.
Revision that remembersAnything missed goes into a bank and comes back at the right intervals until it is known. "Revise with Emily" runs what is due.
The daily seven minutesA seven-minute quiz at the top of Today, set fresh each day: the points due for review, one group of signs, one walkaround section spoken with Emily. Do it every day and the streak grows.
Mock test dayThe full rehearsal in the real order: cockpit drill, walkaround questions, verbal questions, hand signals. Scored, with a pass or not-yet.
Learn: eight topicsThe CPC walkaround oral, the tester's rules-of-the-road questions, all 140 RSA road signs, hand signals, artic coupling, driver-assistance systems, load securing, and audio lessons for the road.
The journeyEvery step from medical to licence in order, with the learner's own dates, what to bring and what is next, through to the test-day checklist. Each step carries the live link to the site it needs: the medical form, NDLS, the theory test, the RSA booking.
The lesson logAfter each lesson the learner speaks into the phone what was covered and what the instructor said, and the app tidies it into a clear record. The points the learner notes from the instructor feed the "Before you drive" card for the next lesson, so the teaching carries on between lessons. The instructor adds nothing; the learner does.
Progress cardOne tap makes a picture of the week's revision: what was practised, questions answered, how many marked correct, the streak, what to work on next. Sent to the instructor, or shared with the school's name on it.
Document walletThe learner permit, the medical, the theory and CPC case-study certificates and later the licence, CPC card and tacho card: scanned and straightened on the phone, the number and expiry read off the card, a warning before anything expires.
Works without signalReading, quizzes, signs, the journey, the lesson log and the wallet all work with no coverage. Anything spoken, Emily asking, listening and marking, needs a mobile data or wifi connection.

For the working driver

In the appWhat it gives the driver
Daily walkaround by voiceEmily names each of the 34 items, cab first then clockwise round the truck. The driver says "okay" or describes the fault, and can photograph it if they wish. A dated report with the registration, odometer and location goes to the operator from the driver’s phone as a PDF, with the faults listed first; the office address is saved once.
Defects that carry forwardA fault stays open until someone says it is fixed; Emily asks about it by name at the start of the next check on that truck.
Drivers' hours timerThe driver tells it what they are doing, Start driving, Break, Other work, End of day, and it counts down to the next break and shows the day and the week against the limits. A guide beside the tachograph, not a substitute for it. Coming in November: a read-out of the driver's own tachograph card, saved on the phone.
Document walletLicence, Driver CPC card, tacho card, medical, learner permit, ADR, Safe Pass: scanned and straightened on the phone, the number and expiry read off the card, a warning before anything expires.
Sites notebookNotes on every place the driver delivers to or collects from, spoken into the phone on the way out and tidied by the app into clear lines under headings: the gate, the approach, the bay, who to see, what to watch for, opening hours. Photos, a pin that opens navigation, and any site can be shared with another driver. A growing record of every yard, kept on the phone.
Keep sharpThe CPC questions, signs, load securing and hours rules stay available for periodic CPC and for moving up to CE.
OperatorsWhether the driver works for one operator, the owner of the truck, or several through an agency, each operator's name and email is saved once and the walkaround report goes to the right office with the subject line filled in.

For the school and the instructor

School codeThe learner types it once. Voice and AI use is counted to the school today; passes bought and test results are counted to the school from January 2027.
Instructor viewFrom January 2027. Which learners practised this week, what they got wrong, when their test is, with the learner's consent. Today the learner sends the instructor the progress card.
Instructors, and help by voiceEvery ADI at a partner school uses the app with the school code; named instructor accounts come with the instructor view in January 2027. A learner can ask the app a question out loud and get an answer from the help text, which means fewer questions for the instructor.
